Carrie Rothwell, Director:  Academy of Classic Arts

Carrie RothwellCarrie hails from the United States having trained and performed with the Inland Dance Theatre, Stanley Holden's Dance Center, San Francisco Ballet, and was awarded a scholarship to the Pennsylvania Ballet where later she performed with that company. She also performed with American Ballet Theatre and appeared in the Hollywood film "Six Weeks" starring Mary Tyler Moore and Dudley Moore. Upon arriving in Canada in 1986, Carrie has continued her development as an artist and teacher, with renowned artists at the Banff School of Fine Arts, notably, Clinton Rothwell, whom she married in 1990. Carrie has been a frequent guest instructor for the Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, and has taught in summer schools throughout Canada and the United States. While teaching in Canada, Carrie entered students in examinations in both the ISTD and RAD syllabus to whom the highest marks have been awarded. Ballet Huntsville / Academy of Classic Arts offers a wonderful opportunity for the young dancers of Huntsville to train in a like-minded discipline such as the new Syllabus adopted by Alabama Ballet's official school, Alabama Ballet Royal Academy of Dance. Carrie is known for her caring and creativity with preschoolers through early childhood children giving them the opportunity to express themselves in a Christ-driven atmosphere. In 2006, Carrie’s first ballet entry, "At A Gathering", was awarded a place in the finals at Panoply’s Choreography Competition and in 2009 Carrie's "Our Prayer" received Honorable Mention. In 2006, she was commissioned to set her ballet, "At A Gathering", on California Riverside Ballet for their annual Gala Performance. This summer, 2009, Carrie will return to California Riverside Ballet to work with their dancers on her ballet "Allegro Assai". Carrie held the position of Ballet Mistress for the Huntsville Ballet Company, under the directorship of Clinton Rothwell, for the 06/08 seasons.
